G E T T I N G    T O   P A L M E R V I L L E   S T A T I O N  - S E L F   D R I V E 

Palmerville Station can be accessed by road; If you are doing the Cape York Experience, stop in and visit. If you are doing the “Old Coach Road” 4x4 experience, you will travel through Palmerville Station and past the Camp Grounds.

Stop in and stay overnight and share your photos and experiences with other travellers and the locals.

From Port Douglas, via Mossman and the Mulligan Highway. 

Turn off the Mulligan Highway (approx 35km south of Lakelands) onto 

Whites Creek Road (dirt road maintained by Cook Shire Council) and 

42 km from the turn off the Mulligan Highway you will find the Palmerville Station Tourism Precinct and the Cannibal Creek Camp Grounds and Fishing and the Western Yalanji Ranger Base. (Approximately 3km in from the Palmerville Gate.

Caravans and motorhomes use this access route, However, road conditions can vary immediately after the wet season and you can call the Camp Grounds directly to get an updated road condition report.

There are numerous small creek crossing in the road and spectacular views from the mountain tops as you wide your way through the mountain ranges of Cape York. 

a 2.5 to 3 hour 4WD from Port Douglas.

Due to the challenging nature of the road to Palmerville Station and when travelling around Palmerville Station, which is unsealed once you turn off the Mulligan Highway, guests will require a 4WD vehicle. 

From Cairns, via Mareeba and the Mulligan Highway.

IMPORTANT NOTE: There can be road closures on the drive to Palmerville Station in the wet season. 

Palmerville Station recommends booking helicopter charters for transfers during this period in the event of any road closures.
